Jeanne AGNILA, from Takon to Yaoundé, a journey of excellence

Takon is a small Nago village nestled in the plateaus of Benin. Coming from the south, it marks the gateway to Nago country. A place steeped in history, it is from this very village that a “gazelle and a stag” emerged—for by the grace of God, she came into this world as one of twins: Jean and Jeanne.

Throughout her academic journey, she has consistently graduated at the top of her class. To put it in perspective, she ranked second in her cohort during her bachelor’s degree at the UAC Faculty of Law. Later, she graduated valedictorian of her master’s program in Social Sciences and International Relations in Yaoundé, before ultimately earning a double doctorate. It is impossible to speak of Jeanne AGNILA’s excellence without mentioning that she was awarded the prestigious Grace d’Almeida Foundation scholarship, given to the best female doctoral student in Law at UAC. A few years later, while still a PhD candidate, she won the national title in the MT180 eloquence contest (Three Minute Thesis), going on to brilliantly represent Benin at the international stage in Dakar, Senegal, in 2019.

Today, Dr. Jeanne AGNILA works in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Her home village of Takon can look on with immense pride, boasting one of the rare female figures with a double PhD. Likewise, Benin can take pride in a citizen who continues to fly its flag high on the international stage.

Jeanne, a heart of gold

Jeanne AGNILA is the founder and Secretary-General of Grain d’amour (Grain of Love), a Cameroon-registered NGO dedicated to supporting the most underprivileged communities. Not a single year goes by without Grain d’amour stepping in to provide direct aid to low-income families.

Even back during her doctoral studies, she served as the coordinator for the “Filles-Mères Épanouies du BĂ©nin” project (FME 229). Funded by the French Embassy in Benin, this initiative aimed to empower and train 40 young single mothers. The program provided them with practical training in tie-dyeing, cooking, and soap-making, followed by post-training setup to ensure their long-term financial independence. They were even equipped with the essential tools needed to launch their own businesses. Additionally, these young women attended educational workshops designed to equip them with vital life skills in the municipality of Pèrèrè.

Jeanne AGNILA has achieved all of this while only in her thirties. Proof that, as the saying goes, “worth by years is not defined.” And according to her, this is only the beginning.
